Licensed Quidditch

The Quidditch uniforms were a perfect opportunity for the costume designers to showcase the four houses of Hogwarts. Quidditch was given the flavour of a medieval jousting tournament, with heraldic coloured banners and towers. For the first two films, Quidditch teams were clothed in simple uniforms consisting of a preppy wool sweater, nineteenth- century breeches, high boots, and hooded robes in house colours.
For Prisoner of Azkaban, the uniforms were altered to accommodate stormy weather conditions. Goggles and a water-resistant nylon fabric were added which immediately modernised the outfits. Stripes and player numbers were also added which were more in line with contemporary sports uniforms. In Half-Blood Prince, Quidditch tryouts and training were points of focus so something lighter and simpler was designed, like a warm-up suit. The players' numbers were also standardized, each number telling which position you were playing whether you were a Beater, Seeker or a Keeper. Padded leather body armour, shoulder protectors and a helmet were added over and above the arm guards and knee pads of earlier uniforms as the sport became more aggressive and the players and filmmakers became more seasoned.
Bring the magic and sorcery home with you and imagine the Quidditch games in your own minds, buy into it as the designers and filmmakers did and have no doubt the characters could really fly!
